About the Item

A very rare and important cabinet, designed by Richard Riemerschmid, made by Dresdner Werkstatten fur Handwerkskunst, 1905. Still retaining its original off white paint, as was the fashion of the time, seen in the furniture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Joseph Hoffman. The piece retains the original brass lock, hinges and pins. The simple interior has adjustable shelves. The Vienna Secession movement were advocates of simplicity rational construction and honest use of materials which in turn influenced modern design developments, so global was their influence that the Weiner Werkstätte even had a shop in New York in the early 20th century. The Brohan Museum, Berlin, has the identical model in larch in their collection. Dimensions: H 202cm x W 111cm x D 56cm
