Rustic French Provincial 18th Century Oak Kitchen Pantry Cupboard

About the Item

A French provincial pantry cupboard, so-called "dorsoé" (or dressoir) from the 18th century. Solid oak with later additions. This piece of furniture, also known as a milk cupboard, was originally an integral part of an old farmhouse. A large part of the interior was later renewed or added to, so that this unique country house piece can now radiate its extraordinary charm in other living situations as well, as if it had never been any different. Flat, side-moulded oak body with angled pilaster strips, grooved plinth and cornice. Two doors hung on external brass fittings flank 3 small stacked drawers. Underneath is a lockable flap. Both the flap and the doors are made in a frame construction, whereby the artistically curved panels of the latter are a beautiful detail. The same applies to the bright, yet patinated brass of the drawer knobs, key plates and hand-forged brass fittings on the doors, which accentuate the brown oak wood. The open compartment at the bottom originally served as a place for the typical clay jugs that no provincial French household was without, mainly for storing and transporting water. The blue and white chequered curtain is a new addition. Inside, the wardrobe is fitted with one shelf behind each door and another in the lower compartment. Dimensions: 196 cm high / 77.16 inch high, 177 cm (max.) wide / 69.68 inch (max.) wide, 41 cm or 51 cm (incl. protruding tips of the headboard) deep / 16.14 inch or 20.07 inch (incl. protruding tips of the headboard) deep. Shelf depth: 32 cm or 34.5 cm / 12.59 inch or 13.58 inch. Depth of flap: 34 cm / 13.38 inch. This piece of furniture is a unique, authentic country house piece characterised by its charming, rustic design and the warm patina of the waxed oak wood. Perfect for chalet interiors or the wabi sabi style. Restored ready for everyday use condition (including minor repairs, surface cleaned, interior transparently sealed, exterior polished with wax, new locks fitted). The furniture cannot be dismantled for transport. Only the doors, drawers and shelves can be removed.
