19th Century English Partners Desk

About the Item

This is a partners desk made in England, circa 1890. The desk is made of a combination of rosewood, mahogany, satin mahogany and ebony. The top of the desk is made of rosewood and has three beautifully shaped pieces of brown leather with gold embossed tooling. The top has a nicely shaped molding on all four sides. The main working side of the desk has 4 drawers on the right and left sides with a serpentine shaped drawer to the middle. The other side of the desk has a drawer on the right and left side with a cupboard beneath each drawer. The cupboard door opens to reveal open storage with one shelf. There is a serpentine shaped drawer to the middle of this side also. The four drawers on the front of the desk and the two drawers on the other side are made of satin mahogany with shaped string inlays of ebony. Both of the middle serpentine shaped drawers have a mahogany banding with satin mahogany to the middle of the drawer with shaped string inlays of ebony. The desk sits on a shaped rosewood plinth base that is inlaid in satinwood and ebony. All four corners of the desk have a concave shape that is done in mahogany. The desk has signed brahma locks on all of the drawers. Brahma locks are well known as being the finest lock makers in the whole of Britain, and one of the finest lock makers in the world. Brahma locks were only used on the finest furniture as they were very expensive. Both the right and left sides of the desk are done in satin mahogany with shaped inlays of ebony. The inside of the desk is also finished in satin mahogany with shaped string inlays of ebony. The solid brass hardware is of the finest quality. This is an amazing example of the best of the best. Truly fabulous quality and clean and sound in physical condition and finish. The desk measures 83 in. Wide x 45 1/4 in. Deep x 32 in. Tall.
