About the Item

A very fine 19th century French Louis XV style Kingwood and Rosewood, Walnut and ormolu mounted Bonheur du Jour. A twin panel door applied with oval Sevres porcelain panels, enclosing shelved interior, the base supported on squared cabriole legs Ormolu mounted details and ornamentation. An excellent and rare model of the 19th Century.

    A stunning Vernis Martin vitrine cabinet, glazed paneled doors with painted gallant scenes and exquisite ormolu mounts. Four beautiful hand painted panels “H . Martin “ signed by the family descendants of the Martin brothers (in the court of Louis XV) the first importers of lacquer painting who kept the art through the generations. Two central panels with romantic courting couples and the other two landscape scenes. Veneered wood, bronze mounts, curved glass with satin lined interior with two glass shelves. Vernis Martin. The Martin brothers were famous painters, gilders and varnishers who also worked for Louis XV in Versailles. Their dynasty lasted for almost eight decades, during which time they practiced in many fields, producing toilet sets, box sets, mirrors, small objects, cases, furniture, wood ornamentation, carriages and coaches.
