Antique 19th century blacked dark brown oak Dutch Lectern or portable desk

About the Item

This unique lectern was crafted in the Southern Netherlands at the beginning of the 19th century, around 1820. It was made from fine European White Oak and stained a very dark brown, almost black. After staining, several layers of shellac were applied followed by a few coats of wax polish for finishing. The lectern stands on four small turned legs and features a slanted hinged lid that can be securely closed. The lock and key are authentic and fully functional. Upon opening the lid, the original beautifully hand-forged hinges become visible. Inside, the lectern or portable desk is equipped with 4 drawers and 3 pigeonholes. The piece is in remarkably good authentic condition, having been gently cleaned and given a fresh wax coating by us. The lectern serves as an excellent book stand for displaying a book. It is authentic, without any damage, and ready for use.
