About the Item

This is a one of a kind desk with a sculpted bronze base and live edge walnut top. The artist, Lawrence Welker IV created the base to resemble a moth. The desk surface is two joined live edge book matched slabs of solid walnut representing wings. This is a work of art desk to be a showpiece and cherished for a lifetime. It is truly unique and impressive in size, measuring 89 inches wide. This piece is signed on the underside The top can detach from the base for transport. Lawrence Welker IV was raised in the creative and artistic atmosphere of his family’s fine art foundry located outside of Philadelphia, PA. His introduction to form, tools, and materials at a young age developed both his creativity and in-depth knowledge of sculptural and casting techniques. At Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, Lawrence further expanded his skills working in small-scale art using precious metals and stones to create wearable sculptural jewelry. In his current professional life, Lawrence maintains a personal studio within a full-service fine art facility; this provides him the opportunity to push the boundaries of design and materials and allows complete hands-on involvement from initial concept to completed piece. Inspired by natural landscapes and organic forms, Lawrence creates sculptures and furniture using bronze, stone, wood, and glass that combine elegance and function.
