French 18th Century Louis XV Period Fruitwood and Ormolu Library Table/Desk

About the Item

A striking and large-scale French 18th century Louis XV period ebonized fruitwood and ormolu library table/desk. The desk is raised by elegant cabriole legs with fine foliate feet and a lovely carved filet; which leads up each leg and extends along the scalloped frieze. At the front apron are three drawers each decorated with richly chased most unique foliate ormolu pulls and keyhole escutcheons. At the back are three faux drawers decorated in the same manner. Above is a fitted gold-tooled burgundy colored writing surface framed within a mottled ebonized fruitwood border.

    A very high quality French 18th century Louis XVI period mahogany and ormolu desk or writing table, signed C. Mauter. The desk is raised by elegant circular tapered fluted legs with fine fitted ormolu sabots and richly chased fitted foliate chandelles. Above each leg are lovely fluted block reserves with additional finely detailed fitted chandelles. The scalloped shaped apron displays three drawers, each decorated with most attractive ormolu keyhole escutcheons.
