French 19th Century Louis XIV St. Ebony, Brass And Ormolu Boulle Desk

About the Item

A handsome and richly detailed French 19th century Louis XIV st. Ebony, Brass and Ormolu Boulle desk. This wonderful rectangular desk is raised by four square tapered legs decorated by a mottled Ormolu band and bottom topie shaped feet. The legs are connected by a pierced double triangle stretcher with a central circle motif. The stretcher is elegantly decorated by Ormolu bands along the edges. The arbalest front apron has three drawers which are recessed with intricately inlaid Brass filets of scrolled and foliate designs. The inlaid panels are framed by an attractive Ormolu band. The interior of the outer drawers are fitted with unique safe like locked compartments. The locks to these compartments are hidden by removable fitted interior shelves which once removed, reveal the locks. The two sides and opposite side of the drawers are decorated in the same manner with the same exquisitely decorated panels. Above is the top fitted with its black gold tooled leather and bordered by outer uninterrupted scrolled foliate Brass inlaid designs. The top is finished by an impressive and wide mottled Ormolu gallery.
