French 19th Century Neoclassical Style Mahogany, Ormolu and Slate Table/Desk

About the Item

A striking French 19th century neoclassical style mahogany, ormolu and slate side table/desk. The table is raised by elegant square tapered legs with fine mottled ormolu sabots and richly chased foliate top capitals. Above each leg are beautiful richly chased winged maidens with abundant scrolled Rinceaux shaded foliate designs. The straight apron displays a wrap around bottom foliate band and one drawer with a striking pierced central ormolu foliate mount with beautiful interlocking foliate branches and palmettes. The sides and back are decorated in the same manner. Above is the original black slate top fitted within a finely chased ormolu border.
