About the Item

A large French writing desk or library desk in the Neoclassical Louis XVI style, sourced from Provence, France. Expertly hand-crafted from solid mahogany, the desk features a rectangular top inset with burgundy red tooled leather, flanked by two pull-out extension leaves that extend the total length to 101 inches. The wood has been structurally revised and professionally refinished, now showcasing a rich medium-brown tone that highlights the expressive grain while preserving its naturally aged patina. Fronted with five dovetailed drawers, the reverse side is fully paneled for a finished look. Retains its original brass hardware and comes with one working key. Raised on tapered, fluted legs terminating in brass sabots. Solid, stable, and finely constructed, this piece offers timeless elegance and generous workspace, making it ideal for a study, library, or office. - Origin: Provence, France - Period: Mid 20th Century - Materials: Mahogany, Leather, Brass - Dimensions: W 71" x D 35.5" x H 29.75" - apron clearance 22.75" - Condition: Structurally restored and refinished.
