George Nakashima Inspired Walnut Desk by Boyd & Allister

About the Item

A walnut desk inspired by George Nakashima’s desk design of the late 1950’s. The desk is built in solid walnut with an exceptional live edge walnut slab top complimented by Wenge butterfly’s. The spindle legs are turned by hand in the shop to have an elegant taper. The case is mitered solid walnut with dovetailed solid walnut drawer boxes. For the faces of the drawers we bookmatch shop sawn faces of Claro walnut. The desk seen in the pictures has Claro walnut ‘crotch grain’ bookmatched open vertically. There are two equal drawers above a single file drawer. The file drawer is built to hold standard sized hanging files on metal bars in the drawer. The handles for the drawers are handmade in our studio of leather and brass. The drawers are mounted with euro style soft close under mount slides. The finish is a durable clear low sheen spray finish that balances protection with a natural look and feel.
