Italian 18th Century Walnut and Rosewood Tuscan Desk

About the Item

A very handsome Italian 18th-century walnut and rosewood Tuscan desk. The desk is raised on walnut tapered legs below the scrolled apron that continues at each side. At the frieze are two small drawers with the original iron key. All below the impressive rosewood solid top within the walnut border, with two secret compartments. All original warm patina throughout.

A very high quality French 18th century Louis XVI period mahogany and ormolu desk or writing table, signed C. Mauter. The desk is raised by elegant circular tapered fluted legs with fine fitted ormolu sabots and richly chased fitted foliate chandelles. Above each leg are lovely fluted block reserves with additional finely detailed fitted chandelles. The scalloped shaped apron displays three drawers, each decorated with most attractive ormolu keyhole escutcheons.
