About the Item

Exceptional bureau plat based on the model made by Jean-François Oeben around 1750 and currently on display at the Louvre Museum. This desk uses the same basics as the famous desk of the King of Versailles. It features a superb marquetry decoration of bottomless cubes in rosewood and mahogany, flanked on the sides by cartouches in Amboyna burl. A generous ornamentation of finely chiseled gilt bronze underlines the elegance of the forms and affirms the massive and powerful character of this piece of furniture. Note that the fretwork shapes are asymmetrical between the visitor side and the host side. The Havana-colored leather top is richly decorated with gilded motifs with small iron. It opens four drawers. The frame is made of solid oak. Parisian work from the suburbs, late 19th century. Beautiful Provenance. Very good condition, entirely restored by our workshop, traditional polish finish, the magnificent Havana leather top has been changed by our artisan upholsterer.
