About the Item
Taking inspiration from the conceptual forms of Hiroshi Sugimoto, the Segment desk by Brooklyn designer David Vu starts with the exploration of simple geometric volumes. With the use of minimal gestures of cuts and rotations the aim is to create a functional, sculptural form. The wood is carefully painted in layers of oil glaze to achieve a subtly textured and variegated surface.

The base of the Sabbagh Billot table is attached by a series of intricately hand cut tenons that pass through the top, revealing the construction of the joint. The tenons became known colloquially as "metropolis tenons" after a visitor to the studio saw them during assembly and thought they looked like a city scape.
