About the Item

Designed in the early 1960s by Danish designer Severin Hansen, this desk was produced by Haslevs Møbelfabrik. This factory is generally known for its great construction, and this desk is no different. The tolerances at each corner are extremely tight, and combined with the pleasing proportions Hansen is known for, this desk has become one of the prime examples of Scandinavian Mid-Century design. This model is the larger of the two, featuring four drawers instead of three, and has been professionally and expertly refinished in a beautiful warm rosewood. You will love the design, practicality, and overall quality of this desk. Condition: Expertly refinished. Includes hand-sanding, application of new finish and protective clear-coat, and hand-burnishing with wax. Ready to be used in your home office or project. Does retain hard to spot, harder to photograph signs of age.

Restored Hans J. Wegner for Andreas Tuck AT-319 Drop-Leaf Rosewood Dining Table
By Hans J. Wegner, Andreas Tuck Møbelfabrik
Located in Philadelphia, PA
This incredible table was designed by Danish legend Hans J. Wegner for production by Andreas Tuck Mobelfabrik, who was responsible for many of Wegner's early designs and established the precedent of exceptional build quality we know from Wegner pieces today. There were a few versions of this table, some in other woods, but all of them smaller. We have the largest version of this table ever produced, the AT-319, which extends up to just shy of 10 feet long with both drop-leaf panels attached and deployed. This is also a rosewood model, long held as the most desirable. The quality of this table is among the best from the era. Easily comparable to other exceptional pieces by Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Fritz Hansen. The base is entirely chrome plated steel with precision-manufactured steel bars added for support. The hinges for the drop-leaves are also of steel. Beneath the table, the mechanism for the sliding panels which hold the leaves up is crafted of solid wood and securely mounted the top with tens of screws. The classic attention to detail by Andreas Tuck has resulted in bookmatched rosewood both atop and beneath the table, a measure not taken by other factories for cost-saving. There were absolutely no cost-saving measures for this table's production. This table is in original condition, but will receive a complete restoration upon purchase. This involves a laborious process, including careful hand-sanding and chemical stripping of the top. A new finish is applied with industrial-grade tools, then sealed using a clear lacquer. Finally, it will spend hours in the polishing booth, resulting in an exceptional shine. When complete, this table will look better than it did new. Our in-house professionals have decades of experience working on the most exclusive pieces. In the last few photos are other pieces that we have restored so that you may get a sense of our work. Nanna Ditzel Rosewood Desk This is the polished finish we think will suit the piece best. It allows the rosewood to shine in full glory and creates incredible contrast. Important Edward Wormley For Dunbar Drop-Leaf Desk in Tawi Walnut & Steel 1950s
By Dunbar Furniture, Edward Wormley
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Before this desk was built in the early 1950s, top-class American furniture design was typically unrecognizable compared to the mid century design that exploded in the late 1950s. Across the pond in Europe, the mid century revolution had already happened, yielding huge success in the form of designers and architects like Ettore Sottsass and many more. This inspired Dunbar to produce this desk: one of the most conservatively designed Dunbar models ever at the time. Then, it probably looked incredibly sleek and handsome. Now, it stands as a piece of history not only for Dunbar, but for American design as a whole. In classic Dunbar fashion, the construction of the desk is absolutely in the top of its class. Known for overbuilt pieces, this desk takes it to another level. A frame of black enameled square tubular steel supports a mahogany cabinet with four drawers of the same material, attached with beautiful solid brass hardware. The top is of a rare form of walnut called tawi, which has an interesting grain structure that's visibly more smooth than figured walnut, and is secured to the base with no less than 12 high-quality brass screws. The hinges for the drop side are also uncessesarily intricate, and feature exceptional stability and smoothness. When the drop side is extended, it feels like a perfect natural extension of the main work surface. To top it all off, the drop side has sliding support panel on the underside made of solid rosewood, one of the most expensive and premium woods. Signed in the interior of the second drawer with a metal label. An extraordinary construction for an extraordinary piece of history. In good condition. Top has been refinished and is ready for another generation of use. Structurally excellent. Drawers slide smoothly with almost no dip when extended. Drop side is sturdy and hinges feel great. If desired, we can restore this desk even more. We can repaint the frame black, we can refinish the cabinet, polish brass, etc. As it stands, it has a nice original patina that adds to the character of the desk. Let us know what you'd likle to see! We have decades of experience restoring vintage furniture...
