About the Item

This beautiful Queen Anne kneehole desk was made in around 1710 and is dressed in figured and burr walnut veneers which have been carefully chosen and very well matched throughout, the top with a featherbanded inner border and deep crossbanded outer border. The drawers with matching veneers and inlaid featherbanded borders. The drawers one long and eight flanking drawers are all lined in slender oak boards with tiny hand cut dovetails - top quality craftsmanship. All the drawers are solid and robust and in excellent original condition and all open and close smoothly. The desk retains its original solid brass batswing handles, original escutcheons and original steel locks. The kneehole has a secret drawer at the top concealed within the apron. The cupboard door has its original H shaped brass hinges, escutcheon and original lock and opens to reveal a single shelf. Set on bracket feet. The carcase pine lined as is correct for period. The backboards are oak. Such a pretty and fine example. Dimensions are: 29.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep and 31.5 inches high. From floor to underside of secret kneehole drawer is 22.5 inches, the kneehole is 11.5 inches wide and the cupboard is set back into the kneehole by 4.25 inches. The inner height of the drawers is upper long drawer 3.75 inches, second drawers, 5 inches, third drawers 5.76 inches, lower drawers 7 inches. The secret drawer at the top of the kneehole is 2 inches deep. For metric please multiply by 2.5
