About the Item

Shaped Venetian Bureau Secretaire in Walnut Wood Type: Walnut and walnut burl Period: Mid 1700s Origin: Venice - Veneto Dimensions: Centimeters Height: 114 cm Width: 120 cm Depth: 55 cm Inches Height: 44.88 in Width: 47.24 in Depth: 21.65 in Description: Beautiful and important Venetian fall-front desk, or Bureau, dating back to the Louis XV period, a refined example of 18th-century cabinetmaking. The structure features a curved front, with the typical "crossbow" shaping, and sophisticated surface workmanship. The piece is made of solid fir wood, with an elegant walnut and walnut burl veneer that covers the entire surface, skillfully arranged to create striking grain patterns and color contrasts: each element (drawers, fall-front, sides, top) consists of a walnut frame with end-grain layout and a central panel in walnut burl. (End-grain veneer places the grain perpendicular to the edge of the piece or panel.) The chiseled bronze escutcheons and handles integrate perfectly with the design, adding a decorative touch without overwhelming the composition. The fall-front reveals a fitted compartment with small drawers and sections, designed to store documents and valuables. The base, made with end-grain moldings, follows the same shaping, connecting to bracket feet that support the structure with lightness and elegance. The whole piece perfectly expresses the 18th-century Venetian taste, where craftsmanship blends with refined stylistic research, resulting in a piece that is not only functional but also aesthetically impactful. Restoration Information: Our workshop guarantees a conservative restoration for each piece, preserving its authenticity and structural integrity. Every item undergoes a thorough treatment to ensure stability and hygiene. Specifically, the restoration process includes: Structural repairs to ensure durability Deep woodworm treatment to eliminate infestations Internal cleaning and sanitation Exterior finish with natural beeswax Interior finish with shellac (natural alcohol-based varnish) Upon request, we can customize the level of restoration and adapt internal fittings (clothes rails, shelves, etc.) to your preferences.
