About the Item

This exquisite Mid-Century Danish Modern writer’s desk, attributed to Arne Vodder for H. Sigh & Son, embodies the refined simplicity of 1960s Scandinavian design. Crafted from solid oak, the desk features a warm, natural finish that highlights the wood’s rich grain, with a sleek rectangular top resting on gracefully angled legs that lend a sense of airy elegance. A discreet drawer and a sliding panel reveal a compartment with additional storage, perfect for pens, papers, or small office essentials, showcasing the piece’s functional sophistication. The minimalist lines and ergonomic proportions reflect Vodder’s mastery of blending form and utility, making this desk an ideal centerpiece for a home office, study, or collector’s space. Its timeless craftsmanship and understated luxury continue to captivate design enthusiasts. About Arne Vodder (Designer): Arne Vodder (1926–2009) was a prominent Danish architect and furniture designer, a key figure in the Mid-Century Modern movement. Trained under Finn Juhl at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Vodder established his own design practice in the 1950s, collaborating with manufacturers like H. Sigh & Son. Known for his elegant, functional designs, he often worked with oak, teak, and rosewood, creating pieces that balanced Scandinavian minimalism with luxurious detail. His work gained international recognition, particularly through exhibitions in the U.S., and remains highly valued for its timeless appeal and innovative approach. H. Sigh & Son, a respected Danish furniture manufacturer based in Denmark during the mid-20th century, was renowned for its contributions to the Mid-Century Modern movement. Founded by Hans Sigh, the company specialized in crafting high-quality wood furniture, collaborating with notable designers like Arne Vodder to produce sophisticated pieces that emphasized craftsmanship and minimalist design. Known for their use of premium materials such as oak and teak, H. Sigh & Son created desks, chairs, and cabinets that combined functionality with aesthetic elegance, earning a lasting reputation among collectors and design enthusiasts. ---Dimensions--- Width: 61 in / 154.94 cm Depth: 27 in / 68.58 cm Height: 29.75 in / 75.57 cm This stunning writers desk has recently undergone a partial restoration. The desk top has been hand-sanded however some wear remains as the veneer was too thin to sand out a handful of deep scratches, gouges and burns all of which can be seen in the detail photos provided. With that said the mix of solid and veneered European oak composition is in overall very good shape with outstanding woodgrains throughout. All six drawers open and close with ease and all joinery has been tightened. This visually captivating writers desk is ultra-functional, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to its recent restoration process. Please view all photos and natural light video for details on this desk's current condition.
