Bird's Eye Maple Large Chest of Drawers

About the Item

This unique and exquisite chest of drawers was made in England sometime around the year 1890. It is done in mahogany and bird's eye maple veneers over pine wood. With seven drawers total, it has a huge amount of storage space. Each of the drawers was made with hand cut dovetails front and back and still slide in and out easily on their wooden runners. The front feet and columns have been painted black and subtle painted flora adorn the columns. This provides a wonderful contrast to the honey colored wood. An impressive back splash across the top gives the piece even more presence in a room. While the four large drawers have locks, no key remains. Two of the four screws holding on the back splash are recently replaced. The bottom left-most handle has a broken and repaired edge. Throughout the piece there are replaced pieces of veneer trim. Most notably on the front top right corner, front bottom left corner, and left hand side of the top. There are other small missing pieces here and there. The maple around both feet is missing some small pieces. Being over 120 years old, this chest has also acquired various minor indents and marks throughout. None of these are particularly detracting but they are numerous as you will see in the close ups. Finally, the left side has a slight age separation on the bottom. This is does not affect the structural integrity of the dresser. The height without the back splash is 51 1/8". With its large drawers, impressive size, and gorgeous wood, this large chest of drawers would make a wonderful addition to any home! This item is currently located in Atlanta GA, USA.
