Louis XVI Lombard dresser - Last quarter of the 18th century

About the Item

Elegant Lombard dresser in the Louis XVI style, made in the last quarter of the 18th century, characterized by fine marquetry work and harmonious proportions. Its measurements are: width 124 cm, height 87 cm and depth 60 cm. The entire surface is decorated with leaf pattern inlays, typical of the neoclassical style, and features finely inlaid amphorae on the sides, top, and center of the two drawers, inspired by the shapes of Etruscan and Greek amphorae. This detail denotes the influence of classical art, which was highly valued in the Louis XVI period. The cabinet is entirely upholstered in Bois de Rose, a fine wood known for its warm pinkish hue, while the inlays are made with walnut, maple, and rosewood, creating refined color contrasts. The frame is solid and made entirely of solid walnut, including interior parts such as the bottom and sides of the drawers, the back, and the bottom lid of the cabinet. Decorative details are not limited only to inlays: the corners are enriched with inlaid vertical grooves, while the truncated legs, also decorated with elegant inlaid motifs, lend lightness and momentum to the structure. The round handles and lock ports are made of gilded bronze, adding a touch of sophistication and luxury. The dresser is in good condition and is a magnificent example of late 18th-century Lombard cabinetry, perfect for lovers of period furniture and neoclassical taste.
