Mid Century Bar Cart by MIM Rome attributed Ico Parisi in Teak

About the Item

Mid Century modern Bar Cart by MIM Roma attributed to designer Ico Parisi in teak with brass edging Interior lined with two-tone Formica and mirror. The elegant store layout is designed by Ico Parisi, who also signs the new collection. At that time "Domus" introduced Scandinavian furniture to Italy, whose virtues were extolled: simplicity, practicality, honesty. Italians assimilate that language, which has the merit of debasing their taste. It is a "new" way of making furniture, which is then a new way of living in a new house: modern, comfortable and rational. Fazioli himself is fascinated by this novelty but is not fully convinced by it; he realizes that that kind of approach, while modern and cutting-edge, as it is suited to the climates and societies of the countries from which he comes, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, in our homes and latitudes does not seem suitable. At this point Fazioli's attention turned to the North and he went directly to Ponti to the editorial office of "Domus" in Milan; the editor initially received him with distrust. However, Ponti appreciated this young entrepreneur's enthusiasm and referred him to an eclectic designer from Como, Ico Parisi. The two met in June 1957, came to an agreement, and Parisi began sketching a series of furniture pieces and sent preliminary drawings to Rome where they were engineered by Fazioli and translated into executives. New products are developed separately from current production, a workshop is used to make prototypes where two workers with some machinery are employed-the productions were so different that they could not coexist. Thus a new company was born, to be called Mobili Italiani Moderni, emphasizing the desire to combine modernity with Italian taste and elegance. The period from the meeting with Parisi to the creation of the new company lasts barely a year; it is an experimental phase, the collection is made, new technologies are tested. In mid-1958 the old company was closed and MIM took its place. The layout of the new showroom expresses the new course that Fazioli wants to give to the initiative: it is elegant, modern and refined, the arrangement of the furniture on display is framed by studied wood paneling and enriched by works by artists such as Novelli and Fontana, the work of Parisi, a character of autonomous thinking and outside the box, is in perfect harmony with MIM intent on working with an idea of industrial production that in addition to being innovative is also attentive to a path of integration between the arts.
