Rare Danish Modern Rosewood Tamour-Door Dry-Bar Cabinet by Kurt Ostervig

About the Item

RARE DANISH MODERN ROSEWOOD, BRASS AND GLASS TAMBOUR-FRONT DRY BAR CABINET Designed by Kurt Ostervig circa 1960s unmarked Item # 311WAH13A An exceedingly beautiful and quite rare tambour-front dry bar cabinet designed by the Danish furniture designer Kurt Østervig (Denmark, 1912-1986), it is a very well-known design of his despite being unmarked. It is very hard cabinet to find, especially in the United States. This example is finished in brilliant chaotic rosewood veneers that flow from one edge into the next with nearly seamless transitions. The tambour-front doors are easily opened with original polished brass vertical handles that allow the doors to slide into the sides of the case, revealing a shelved interior lined with tinted glass edged with brass. It is worth noting that this cabinet most commonly features an interior with two-thirds on the right being shelved with lattice-work glass and the left side being situated with drawers over a storage space - we have not removed the glass from this cabinet to see if it perhaps was reworked on the interior, but the glass and brass is all quite old and appears to be of the same date as the cabinet. It is no surprise the cabinet is highly sought-after with incredibly elegant lines, faceted edges and legs, premium hardware and materials and a flawless form. And most importantly, the cabinet remains incredibly relevant today for our modern interiors, working well both as a bookcase, a sideboard or credenza or as intended: as a dry-bar. Measurements: 45 5/8" H x 18" D x 47 3/8" W Condition Report: A very fine presentation with vibrant and well-preserved veneers throughout; the top has a underlying water stain that is rather subtle and does not capture well in the photos but remains present nonetheless (we can send additional candid shots upon request); light scuffs/scratches/surface history throughout; the interior is possible reworked, but we have not removed the mirrors to see if this is perhaps the case; replaced key; cabinet has been repolished and is ready-to-place; very fine quality. • French Waxed Oak Swinging Bar Serving Cabinet by Guillerme et Chambron
    By Guillerme et Chambron
    Located in Shippensburg, PA
WAXED OAK AND TILE SWINGING BAR CABINET By Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron designed for Votre Maison with original Spanish ceramic tiles unmarked, circa 1970 Item # 401PFP02A A rare, fascinating and incredibly relevant tuckaway bar cabinet designed by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron circa 1970, it is exquisitely crafted from solid European oak that is lightly brushed to raise the grain and retains an early waxy finish. The upright post is lighted with a lamp fixture at the top ready to receive the shade of your choice while wire is set in a channel in the back of the post so that it remains mostly hidden by the wall. It is designed to be screwed into the wall with two bolts, these covered with oak dowels (one missing), but the cabinet can still be removed from the upright by withdrawing two large dowels. The bar cabinet is designed to present as a simple naturalistic facade with horizontal set planks embellished with a simple bevelled reveal from the upper planks to the inner planks of oak. The top of the cabinet is inset to receive three ceramic tiles so that drinks can be prepared and set upon the top. Once the cabinet is swung open, you can prepare drinks easily with two shelves in the upper for glasses and accessories while the tiled surface at the bottom can hold the liquids. It is was produced by the firm Votre Maison ("Your Home") owned by Guillerme and Chambron together with master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq. An incredibly fun and compelling form that is easily lived with and that, most importantly, remains in fine original condition. Measurements: 58 3/4" H to highest point of the lamp; 39 1/4" H to highest point of the bar; 11 1/2" D x 29 1/2" W Condition Report: Very minor surface wear, presents beautifully; no lamp shade present; original wiring for European outlets - we can have this rewired upon request; minor white marks/scuffs/blemishes. PAIR OF DANISH MODERN ROSEWOOD AND FROSTED-GLASS WALL SCONCES Designed by Vitrika, Denmark circa 1970s Item # 311VNK02P-2 A perfect representation of the elegance of Danish design, this sleek pair of sculpted rosewood wall sconces were designed by the Danish lighting firm Vitrika in the 1970s. They are not labeled, but we acquired two pairs of these and one retained its original label (and may still be available in our inventory; contact us or browse our inventory if a second pair interests you). Each sconce features a distinctive bulbous glass shade with a serrated top, the opaque glass allowing light to diffuse warmly throughout a room. They are constructed from solid rosewood, not simply veneers, each with a vibrant chaotic grain and natural finish. The sconce extends from the tapered, angular backing on a reeded brass post with a conveniently located light switch just below for easy access. These sconces are best displayed with a hardwire installation. However, they currently come with plugs, allowing for immediate use before having them professionally installed. Measurements: 10" H x 4 3/8" D x 3" W (bulb) Condition Report: Good condition, the wiring is untested - ideal for a hardwire installation. About silla...
