About the Item
MODERN ROSEWOOD COCKTAIL SERVING BAR TABLE
Designed by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling, Norway, circa 1960s; with two stamps "N.S. 6"; otherwise unmarked
Item # 909AWV22P
This sleek and subtle bar table was designed by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling of Norway in the 1960s. It won first prize in the Norwegian Design Competition of 1962 and is a perfect picture of balancing form and function in design.
A restrained size with crisp clean lines, there is nothing to distract or take away from the gorgeous chaotic grain patterns of the rosewood throughout the table. The top raises over exposed hinges to reveal a drink serving bar complete with a spinning tray molded to hold glasses surrounding a deep well for ice and a bottle of wine. The molded plastic inserts for glasses is easily removable to allow for cleaning.
Rich, fun and of very high quality, this is an unusually enjoyable little cocktail table.
Rolf and Adolf also designed a few variations of this table, including ones without the ice bucket, sewing table variations with a suede basket bottom as well as models in teak and ebony woods.
Measurements: 17“ height x 23 3/4“ diameter

The diminutive stature of the table allows it to be a part of the room without dominating at all, adding texture and visual interest with the brilliantly textured gilt patina while having a great deal of negative space that makes the table feel light, airy and relaxed. The 3/8" thick (and brand new) glass top is set into tiny grooves in the legs, each with a single twisted iron ring hanging from the top with a gentle curved profile that terminates in a stubbed sabot. We acquired this together with a matched pair to this that is almost identical in size but is a simple black patination instead of having the gilt surface on the wrought iron; contact us if you would like to know about the other table.
