About the Item

A commanding presence within the visual language of 1970s Italian design; this bar by Nerone and Patuzzi reflects the bold sculptural energy of Gruppo NP2. Designed in 1976 and signed on the front panel, it is accompanied by a certificate from the Nerone archive. Design The bar comprises three curved panels crafted from solid wood. Its front surface is deeply hand-carved and then fire-treated, a process that darkens the material while enhancing its grain and creating depth in both tone and texture. This technique, used frequently by Gruppo NP2, contributes to the expressive character of the surface. Circular elements, angled planes and gridded details converge into a dynamic, rhythmic composition. The curved top follows the arc of the base, lending the piece a sculptural balance. Nerone (Giovanni Ceccarelli) and Patuzzi were co-founders of Gruppo NP2, a collective of artists active in Italy during the 1970s whose work often merged furniture design with raw artistic experimentation. Their visual vocabulary was informed by both ancient forms and contemporary materiality, and their use of fire as a finishing technique was central to their Brutalist approach. The reverse offers practical shelving, with open compartments and four small doors for storage. Condition Very good condition as it has been carefully restored in our workshop. Some tonal variation and minor marks are present from the original fire treatment, all in keeping with the intended character of the piece.
