Early 19th Century French Mahogany, Oak & Marble Secretaire with Ormolu Mounts

About the Item

Important Secretaire a Abattant, Paris, Empire, circa 1805. Mahogany on oak, marble top, ormolu mounts. Caryatides, trophy weapons, fasces, antique Roman and Egyptian ornamentation are the style of Napoleonic reprensentation, influenced by lasting times of war. This piece has been attributed to one of the most important furniture makers of the empire, Francois Honore George Jacob, who, in cooperation with bronze sculptor Pierre-Philippe Thomire, executed commissions for Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). Some professional restoration has been done on this piece. Measures: 57.75" H, 38" W, 17" D
