English Georgian Hepplewhite Period Secretaire Bookcase, Glazed Doors, Mahogany

About

English 18th century Georgian Hepplewhite period mahogany secretaire bookcase in two parts. The upper section having arched astragal molded glass doors, upper cornice, and three adjustable shelves in each side of the upper section. The lower section having a secretaire pull out drawer with baize writing surface, eight small drawers, two long drawers, eight cubby holes, and a central lockable small satinwood inlaid door behind which is storage space. The front of the drawer has side locks which release so it can be laid flat for writing. There are two large oval inlays on the front of the drawer, demarcated by satinwood and ebony stringing. There are 2 cupboard doors below the secretaire drawer, which open to reveal one pull out shelf. The doors are again inlaid with ovals surrounded by satinwood and ebony stringing. The feet are splay "French" feet, so popular in the Hepplewhite period and shaped skirt. Circa 1790.
