Antique Oak & Cast Metal Butcher Shop Mercantile Wrapping Wall Mounted Shelf

About the Item

This antique butcher's shop shelf was made by an unknown maker, but is believed to have originated from the United States and date to approximately 1920 and done in the period Art Deco style. The wooden top component of the shelf if composed of oak with a small open compartment. The metal bracket and base is signed "Ruddy" and composed of cast brackets on either side with a lifting metal flange that would have held the brown butcher's wrapping paper and there would have been a rod seated in the side brackets on either side to hold the roll. The shelf is very sturdy and was intended to be mounted to the wall with the six holes in the cast bracket with a center flange bracket (which could be removed) to presumably hold the weight. The shelf has metal screw eyes on either side that likely was used for holding string.
