English Regency Brass-Mounted Mahogany 5-Tier Corner Étagère, Attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, Mid-19th Century
A rare and elegant English Regency period corner étagère, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, dating to the mid-19th century. This five-tier open shelf is crafted in rich mahogany and features reeded demi-lune fronts joined by slender brass columns, offering a refined neoclassical aesthetic ideal for both display and storage.
The structure is designed to sit neatly in a corner, standing 66 inches high with a graduated arrangement of shaped shelves: the top shelf measures 20.5 inches wide by 15 inches deep; the second shelf, 20.5 inches wide by 14 inches deep with a 13-inch clearance; the third shelf measures 25 inches wide by 17 inches deep with a 13-inch interior height; and the two lower shelves each measure 25 inches wide by 18 inches deep, both with 17-inch interior heights.
The restrained detailing, fine joinery, and quality materials reflect the exceptional craftsmanship associated with Gillows. This unmarked piece remains in very good antique condition, with light wear consistent with age. A striking and functional furnishing, it works equally well in classical, traditional, or curated eclectic interiors.
