Late 18th Century Mahogany Folding Dumbwaiter

About the Item

A very good quality George III period mahogany folding dumb waiter having Two well figured circular tiers united by gun barrel turned centre column Terminating on elegant tripod legs with original brass castors ( Antique dumb waiters, sometimes referred to as buffet's were made to be used in a dining room for storing the food about to be served. Often the dumb waiters made in pairs for large houses and they appear to have first started being used around the mid-19th century. After dinner, when the ladies retired to a different room the dumb waiters would be placed at either end of the table laden with drink so that the gentlemen could help themselves easily enough throughout the rest of the evening. This example is particularly unusual with its folding sides allowing it to be used in such a huge variety of different places around the modern home without sacrificing a huge amount of real estate so to speak.) circa 1790. Measures: Height - 36in Top tier - Flaps up diameter 18in, flaps down 4.25in x 18in Bottom tier - Flaps up diameter 23.5in, flaps down 5.25in x 23.5in.
