Low Victorian pigeon hole cupboard/cabinet/storage unit Low Victorian pigeon hole cupboard/cabinet/storage unit. A few weeks ago we heard about a derelict brickworks outside Hull that was being cleared. The works had been producing bricks for over two hundred years although it sadly stopped production in the 1970s. The yard was left untouched for over 50 years and fell into a pretty grim state. Fortunately the original turn of the century maintenance shed had been sealed up and was untouched. The shed housed an extraordinary batch of Industrial pigeon hole storage units that were used to house the spare parts for the steam engine that powered the site. We have a number of very original and untouched turn of the century pigeon hole units plus a few extra finds including some bearings, lights and even some brick moulds. This unit has a cabinet on the left with five fixed shelves 27cm deep, 50cm wide and 15cm tall. Then there are forty ‘pigeon holes’ all 25cm wide, 27cm deep and 15 cm tall. The practical size of the ‘pigeon holes’ make it perfect for all sorts of storage from smaller books and magazines through to decorative finds or children’s paraphernalia. Practical in a bedroom or living room environment, perfect for a child’s bedroom, home office or hallway. The unit is made from Canadian pitch pine and retains its original paint and original hand painted imperial numbers/markings. We have steam cleaned and jet washed the shelves so that they are clean and practical to use but retain their original scars and patina. This is a very rare piece in stunning original condition and makes a great storage piece. The last of our Victorian Industrial heritage. Workshop report Locking latch is not working but there is a later catch that works well. Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
