About the Item

19th century French sideboard server buffet hunt cabinet black forest stag hound. Direct from a castle estate in France, a large 19th century carved French sideboard hunt cabinet! We recently purchased the entire contents of a gorgeous French estate, including this exception piece as well as several others that have just arrived! Throughout this cabinet, the superb hand carvings reveal this was probably a commissioned piece, created for French aristocracy, in the 19th century. In true “hunt cabinet” style, the center door features a large carved hunt scene of two hunt dogs and a large stag in the forest. Note the exceptional details to the faces, eyes, hair and dimensional accuracy of the animal bodies, as well as the Black Forest tress, fruit and foliage to the background. This cabinet also features a special silhouette with curved/rounded cabinet sides! Each of these rounded sides features a curved upper drawer (with carved gadrooning front) above a locking, curved door. Oh yes, those curved side doors also have Black Forest carved fruit and foliage across the double recessed panels. Lavish carvings throughout, so much moulding, many more photos are available, and let us know if you’d like a video!! This cabinet would be fabulous in a dining room, but also consider it for a foyer (with gold gilt mirror above) or in a large family room behind a sofa; and certainly if you’re thinking hunting lodge or mountain home!! Beautiful dark, aged patina; superb master carver designed details; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1880. Measurements: 39” height x 72” (large 6 ft. length) x 22”.
