About the Item

A fascinating teak sideboard produced in Denmark by the furniture maker Omann Jun and featuring sliding doors with three felt-lined drawers hidden behind its sleek exterior. This model by Gunni Omann has those beautiful long ‘organic’ handles adorning its sliding doors. This multipurpose sideboard epitomizes Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern: gorgeous teak, expert craftsmanship, and highly functional design. Danish furniture manufacturing company Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S was founded by Andreas Omann in 1933. The family-run business initially focused on the production of bedroom furniture but later, in 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, expanded into dining room furniture, desks , sideboards , and shelving systems made in high-quality woods, such as teak, oak, and rosewood, which were exported worldwide. Members of the Omann family developed the designs in house. Among collectors, the beautifully constructed wood sideboards remain Omann Jun’s most sought after productions. These pieces feature many hallmarks of Scandinavian modernist design, like beautiful grained surfaces, tapered legs, sliding doors, and bevelled edges. The Model 18 (1961) and Model 21 (1965) are exemplars of this style. Omann Jun was taken over in 1979 by Bjarne Omann, after he inherited the company from his father. During his time as the head of the company, Omann Jun produced exclusive furnishings for professional offices. In 2005, Ulrich Omann took leadership from his father, and today the company concentrates on the production of office furniture, including many midcentury classics.
