Exceptional Antique Art Deco Maple Wood Bar Cabinet or Sideboard 1930s

About the Item

This exquisite English Art Deco maple wood bar cabinet or sideboard is attributed to Harry & Lou Epstein and is circa 1930. The cabinet is expertly handcrafted and features stunning birdseye maple and a “skyscraper” breakfront design with a taller central section and two lower side sections. The center section features double rounded and fluted doors opening on four mahogany-lined drawers with hand-dovetail joint construction and original Bakelite floral drawer pulls. The two flanking side doors open on large storage compartments with two removable shelves on the left and one removable shelf and one top drawer on the right. The cabinet has fitted top glass with a scalloped edge glass piece to match the fluted center. The side door fronts retain the original beautiful Bakelite handles. Two working keys included. Right door opens and closes without key. Left door has to be unlocked to open. This collectible and versatile cabinet can be used as a bar cabinet, sideboard or credenza, storage cabinet, media console, etc. The perfect showpiece for home or office. H & L Epstein Ltd: Originally founded in the 1890s by Morris Epstein, the Epstein Company would become one of the most recognizable and high-quality producers of Art Deco furniture from the 1930s to the 1950s. Epstein’s furniture was influenced by customers whose tastes echoed the avant-garde styles such as those seen at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts which occurred in Paris in 1925. Earlier furniture, before 1940, while not stamped, can still be recognised due to its style, materials used, and quality of construction. From the 1950s, Epstein furniture started being constructed with ivorine labels, either stamped ‘H & L Epstein Ltd’ or ‘Epstein & Goldman’. Epstein furniture was widely considered as being of very high quality, and consequently their pieces are very sought-after today.
