French Mid-Century Modern "Croissilon" Sideboard / Credenza Attr. to Andre Arbus
About the Item
A Rare and Elegant French Mid-Century Modern Neoclassical sideboard, credenza or cabinet circa 1940-1950 attributed to Andre Arbus. The sideboard is a masterpiece of form and materials. It combines modern simplicity and purity with neoclassical cross decoration and is decorated in humble materials: rattan and bamboo. The piece is composed of a sober underlying cherry / hardwood structure with an elegant overlying thin bamboo facade in a chevron / diamond / "Croissilon" pattern. The legs are composed of bamboo and angled diagonally. Two original solid brass keys complete the piece. It is functional and a delight for the senses.
Additional References: Jean Royere frequently worked in bamboo and rattan in a similar style. Jean-Michel Frank used exotic and humble materials in his creations. Andre Arbus, Jacques Adnet, Jacques Quinet, Marc du Plantier, Dominique, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann.
