Iconic Jiroutek Sideboard Type U 460 In Oak, Interier Praha 1960s
About the Item
Iconic sideboard designed by Jiri Jiroutek for Interier Praha in 1960s, original label still sttached. The sideboard in in half drawer, half compartment version. On the right side there are four drawers, plastic inside, oak wood fronts. The left side of the sideboard is in plain oak wood doors with one adjustable shelf inside. The lock and key is original and fully functional. The sideboard in in an original beautiful condition, the top board was partially restored, there are some damages which were restored. The top part holds a showcase with glass, sliding doors. Original glass. The whole sideboard is 151cm high with the showcase. This we offer for free, only for the shipping price. The top addition has two sliding glass doors and is in a very good condition, one sticker from the 1960s left by the previous owner. this can be removed, but we left it as it has a great charm.

Jiri Jiroutek
Few designers anywhere have created pieces that more distinctly shout mid-century modern than Jiri Jiroutek. Even as a young designer, Jiroutek reenvisioned the fabrication and functionality not only of cabinets and kitchen furnishings but also interior architecture.
However, it was the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair that ultimately inspired the Czech designer's funky, colorful, decorative yet multifunctional U-450 cabinets of the late ’50s and early ’60s that made Jiroutek a leading figure in the so-called Czech Brussels school.
Jiroutek's influence didn’t stop there. After revising an Ikea prototype design at the firm’s request in 1958, Jiroutek received an invitation from Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad to join the company in Stockholm. The designs he created there in the late 1960s, as well as others inspired by his work at the renowned manufacturer Interiér Praha, remain Ikea best sellers to this day.
