Large Hepplewhite Bow-front Inlaid Sideboard, c. 1790
About the Item
Resting on the serving platform is a brass "gallery rail" or brass plate-rack (The other component is the small indention running along the back side of the platform.) This form of rail is unique for its end-scrolls, framing the sideboard very nicely.
The body consists of two central shallow drawers, flanked by two deep hinged drawers. The piece is paneled in finely figured mahogany, and inlaid spectacularly with sandalwood and satinwood inlay and banding.
The mahogany is finely patinated to a light brown, almost honey color, and the satinwood inlay has the textured, silky appearance of its namesake.
A finely preserved piece of George Hepplewhite's influence in design, perfect for a large dining room, or complementing a 12-16 person table.
