Original Hand Painted Drop Leaf Table Cabinet Sideboard, Sweden Dated 1813

About the Item

The elaborate painted finish is all original, making this unique drop leaf table a special find. Not only craftsmanship but ingenuity is revealed as this table also serves as a cabinet. In the Swedish countryside they were shrewd with how to maximize space and create dual use in one piece of furniture as found in this pine cabinet/table. With double monogram and date of 1813, it was likely a special wedding present at the time is was crafted. Opened with both leaves, length is 90.25" yet closed is only 40" wide. Two drawers over two doors configuration in the lower sideboard/cabinet. The lovely painted finish includes blue and white flourishes against a faux wood background (with tones of brown and brick red) which was a traditional folk art style of the era. Restored and waxed, this sideboard is strong, stable and ready for use. Any scratches, cracks, dings, nicks, or age related separation are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this delightful and functional piece.
