About the Item

We are delighted to offer this truly exceptional early 19th-century Biedermeier walnut vitrine, masterfully crafted in Vienna between 1820 and 1825. This rare and distinguished display cabinet is a superb example of early Viennese Biedermeier — a style celebrated for its harmonious proportions, refined elegance, and outstanding craftsmanship. Its timeless aesthetic continues to influence contemporary design to this day. Over the course of our thirty-year dedication to collecting and specializing in Austrian Biedermeier furniture, we have encountered only a handful of vitrines of this quality and rarity. It is an extraordinary piece — both visually stunning and historically significant. The vitrine is crafted from highly figured walnut veneer with a warm, light amber tone, enriched by a 200-year-old natural patina. The surfaces have been finished with traditional French polish, enhancing the depth and radiance of the wood grain. The interior, including all four shelves and a spacious lower drawer, is finished in beautifully light-colored maple, creating a bright and elegant contrast. Most of the original glass and mirrors remain intact, a rare and valuable feature that speaks to the cabinet’s authenticity. The two original keys, along with the original brass lock and fittings, further underscore its historical and artistic value. This vitrine is not only a functional display piece for porcelain, books, or collectibles, but also a sculptural work of art. The lightness of form, the refined silhouette, and the meticulous attention to detail give it a graceful, almost architectural presence. Whether placed in a classic interior or a modern setting, this exceptional Viennese Biedermeier vitrine will bring sophistication, character, and timeless elegance to any space. The piece is offered in very good condition and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
