About the Item
Antique French marble topped vitrine in the Empire style
French, 19th century
Measures: Height 132cm, width 72cm, depth 47cm
This antique mahogany vitrine was made in France and takes after the opulence of French design during the Empire period of the early 19th century. Featuring Egyptian-style ormolu mounts at the top corner of each side, and set on ormolu paw feet, the vitrine demonstrates a refined elegance. The lower section of the front also contains ormolu mounts, in the form of a swan surrounded by laurels, with floral and lyre-like motifs around, and set within a border showing spirals and floral motifs. The glass door of the vitrine is above and opens to reveal an interior containing one glass shelf. The top of the vitrine is made from pink and green veined marble, which is set on a pierced ormolu gallery.
