Solid Brass Neoclassical Vitrine Etagere on Stand

About the Item

Solid brass neoclassical style etagere or vitrine on stand, the denticulated cornice over a reeded frame adorned with leaves. Fitted with glass shelves. Overall dimensions at their widest (which is the entablature) and deepest (which is the base moulding): 103" high x 41.5" wide x 19.25" deep. The upper section is 77" high and fits onto the base which is 26" high by 38" wide by 18.75" deep. It has four glass shelves ~14" deep. 3/4" thick glass with beveled front edge. Shelves are height adjustable. It is illuminated from the top with four porcelain Edison sockets. The very top appears able to accept a glass top. This piece is very heavy (~300 pounds) as it was undoubtedly made for institutional, civic or commercial use. It is something one might see in the lobby of a McKim, Meade & White designed club building for display of trophies. It does not appear that it ever had glass doors, back board or sidelights and seems intended for open display. It should be placed flush up against a wall and secured.
