18th Century "En chapeaux de gendarme" French Provincial Armoire / Wardrobe

About the Item

This beautifully proportioned "en chapeaux de gendarme" or "gendarme's hat" style French provincial armoire brings together form and function in dramatic fashion. At almost 2.5 meters tall, this practical storage piece commands attention, yet offers a sense of comfort in the warm wood grain and soft curving lines of its French country style. Skillfully made in the 18th century and built to last for many more years to come, the interior shelving and lower section with three drawers were seamlessly added at a later time. All metal hardware and locking mechanism are and functional, and the original key is included.
