19th Century Biedermeier Wardrobe, Walnut, Austria circa 1830

About the Item

19th Century Biedermeier Wardrobe Austria Walnut Biedermeier around 1830 Dimensions: H x W x D: 196 x 135 x 57 cm Description: Large antique wardrobe or hall cupboard from the Biedermeier period around 1830. Elegant piece of furniture with well-chosen proportions and a fantastic walnut veneer pattern. The striking moulding on the doors serves as a mirror axis for the strictly symmetrical grain pattern, which is also continued on the sides. The shellac polish gives the surface a pleasant lustre and lends the structure of the wood an incredible "depth". The curved doors run flush with the centre of the cornice and fall back to the sides by around 7 cm. This provides space for the flanking pillars, which can appear freestanding as a result. The curved front breaks up the cabinet's cubic floor plan - instead of appearing clunky or bulky, the cabinet takes on a certain lightness and elegance. The wardrobe is fitted with three shelves and a clothes rail. The wardrobe can be completely dismantled for transport: 1) shelf 2) two doors 3) two side panels 4) head 5) three rear wall sections 6) three shelves + rod Condition: Restored condition suitable for everyday use. Shellac hand polish. Comparable pieces of furniture can be found in the reference book: Rainer Haaff - Biedermeiermöbel Deutschland & Donaumonarchie
