Early 19th Century Country French Bonnetiere ~ Cabinet

About the Item

Early 19th Century Country French Bonnetiere ~ Cabinet was literally designed to be the first thing one encountered when entering the home through the door most often used by the family. Ideal for stashing hats, bonnets (hence the name), outerwear and even shoes, it was designed to be narrow to fit in relatively tight spots, and to take up a minimal amount of floor space. Open the full length door wide, thanks to the steel barrel hinges, and one finds three shelves for four surfaces total, ideal for organization. The casework surrounding this very functional furniture starts with a classic crown on a bonnet carved in bas relief with a wildflower spray, a motif duplicated on the top of the door just underneath. The door consists of a sturdy framework carved in bold scrolls and trimmed in hand-cut molding to surround the finely chamfered panels. The carving on the lower traverse includes the same wildflower theme with the addition of a cluster of grapes, appearing next to the finely styled key guard. Rounded cornerposts extend from the crown to the floor in a linear design, with a very subtle scrollwork connecting the two across the front apron. Three finely molded chamfered panels appear on each side to enhance the visual appeal no matter the viewing angle. Meticulously hand-crafted from old-growth chestnut, its charm knows no bounds. Note the hand-hewn planks used to create the back side! Circa 1810-1820 Measures 77H x 34W x 20.5D
