About the Item
Janni van Pelt Attributed Minimalist Bar Cart with Reeded Glass, 1960s
A refined and highly functional Dutch Mid-Century rolling bar cart, attributed to designer Janni van Pelt, daughter of the influential modernist Bas van Pelt. Designed and manufactured in the Netherlands in the 1960s, this minimalist two-tiered trolley blends understated utility with elevated materiality—hallmarks of the Dutch modernist tradition.
The black enameled square tubular metal frame creates a clean, architectural outline, softened by the texture of newly installed reeded glass shelves that play beautifully with light and shadow. The vertical fluting adds a subtle decorative rhythm while keeping the design firmly rooted in modernist restraint.
Janni van Pelt—an accomplished designer in her own right—created thoughtful, utilitarian furniture that was both forward-looking and durable, much like this piece. Though understated in form, this cart reveals its charm in the details: the patina of the original metal casters, the gentle wear and enamel loss to the frame, and the tactile contrast of glass and steel.
Perfect as a bar, tea trolley, or display piece, this cart is timeless in design and quietly elegant in presence. A few similar examples are also available and listed separately.
