Stunning Bar by Bruno Munari, Rare Early Mahogany Edition 1962, Stildomus, Italy

About the Item

Beautiful and rare, original first 1962 Stildomus edition of the famous Bruno Munari 'Cubobar.' The original Stildomus edition was produced in small numbers and is today rarely seen, furthermore only the early Stildomus edition was finished in beautiful mahogany, later editions were painted. Stildomus was a progressive Italian manufacturer who employed the best Italian architects of the period to design for them among them Ico Parisi, Bruno Munari and Scarpa. This wonderful sculptural and graphic design clearly reflects Munari's involvement in the Kinetic art and 'arte progammata' movements of the period and features four drop down rosewood doors, each lined with laminate, which reveal four interior bar compartments; three full height for the storage of bottles and one compartment split in two by a glass shelf for the storage of glasses.  This design was published in all the important design journals of the period, and has been exhibited in several important Munari exhibitions worldwide. Bruno Munari was one of the most important Italian figures in Italian art and design of the 20th century, starting out as one of the original Italian Futurists, he became a true polymath working with equal proficiency as artist, sculptor, Industrial designer, graphic designer, film, writer and poet. Munari contributed fundamentals to many fields of visual arts in modernism, futurism, and concrete art, and in non visual arts (literature, poetry) with his research on games, didactic method, movement, tactile learning, kinesthetic learning, and creativity. Literature: "Stildomus, 1956-1988, Trent anni e Piu di design', page 32, Cristina Morozzi, idea books edizioni,1988, please see image 2. Exhibited: 'Bruno Munari a Cantu', Sant 'Ambrogio,Piazza Marconi, Cantu, Italy April-May 2012.
