About the Item

The blonde mahogany wood used to craft this piece is of the best quality, inordinately heavy and dense with a simply glowing well patinated refinished surface throughout. The top is a single solid board, rectangular in form with rounded corners, lifting over original cleats secured with hand filed screws flanking a square pedestal head. This retains the original brass catch, the underside of the table top with a replaced brass clasp of very close size to the original hardware, together forming an incredibly strong lock for a firm table surface. The pedestal is flawlessly turned, the bold vase baluster embellished with many crisp ring turnings - the quality of the turnings are of utmost quality and precision. The spider legs dovetail into the underside of the pedestal, these locked in place with a tri-form iron bracket secured with screws to the legs and base. Preserved carefully and simply stunning visually, this is a wonderful selection for the collector and decorator alike. Most attractive is the blond nature of the wood, not bleached or lacking color, but rather rich and full of golden glow throughout the entire piece. This is a table you will cherish and use actively in your home for a lifetime. Measurements: Table position - 28" high x 27 1/4" long x 19" deep; Tilted position - 39" high x 27 1/4" long x 18" deep Condition Report: Refinished, the top with light scratches and numerous discolorations/scars. Later layers of wax preserving the finish beneath. One scratch to surface slightly more visible having not yet oxidized, as well as minor light scratches here and there. Some replaced screws in spider-bracket beneath the legs. One leg has a very slight warp to it, not particularly noticeable. Brass clasp under table replaced. Cleats and screws are fully original, these entirely undisturbed.

An incredibly fine one-piece corner cupboard formerly acquired at Sotheby's in 2013 for $ 15,000. The original and beautifully worn surface is incredibly lively with a rich texture in the symmetrical brush strokes with the natural rubbing through the paint from over two-hundred years of gentle handling. It is crafted in one piece from pine primary woods and poplar secondary woods and features a nine-light glazed upper door with beautifully molded astragals that opens with a replaced brass knob to reveal an interior divided with two fixed shelves. The lower portion of the cabinet is missing its knob and opens to reveal the single shelf that evenly divides out the space.
