Delicate Hepplewhite Oval Stand, Circa:1780

About the Item

This beautiful and delicate Hepplewhite stand has an usual feature. While it is mahogany veneer, the secondary wood including the sides & bottom of the drawer is cedar, which indicates it was possibly made in Bermuda or the Caribbean. When opening the single drawer, the smell of cedar is the first thing you notice – even though this piece is easily around 240 years old. The perfectly proportioned oval form, satinwood line inlay, and slender legs with cuffed feet indicate that the highly skilled cabinet maker was probably British trained in the latest style of the day. The elegant simplicity of its design means it will blend with almost any décor in any room. This stand has developed an exceptional patina over the years. While it has the evidence of age, it shows it in a way that enhances its beauty.
