Empire European Birdseye Maple Stand, Belgium, Circa:1820

About the Item

This beautiful Empire drop-leaf 2-drawer stand is a real show-stopper! Made in Brussels, Belgium in the early 19th Century of highly-figured birdseye maple. Originally it had a sewing basket that has been replaced with a slide-out leather writing surface with gold embossed edge. The beautiful and skillful detailing includes S-scroll legs, acorn finials, and bun feet. The cross stretcher at the bottom has a velvet-covered foot rest. With leaves up it is 35" wide. The measurement listed is with the leaves down.
