Handsome Small Empire Marble-Top Center Table, France, Circa 1810
About the Item
This table is an excellent example of Napoleonic furniture design, and is also very useful in today's home. Perfect as a center table in a foyer or as a side table in the living room. The small size and round shape make it especially good for small rooms -- easy for people to move around without bumping into corners. The table was hand made of mahogany and mahogany veneer with gilt bronze mounts and a top of striking grey marble with random streaks of white. The marble top lifts off, making it easy to move. Very sturdy. The tripod legs mean it sits firmly even with floors that aren't perfectly level. The simple low shelf connecting the legs is also useful for displaying a prized artifact. The simplicity of the design goes well with almost any decor.
