Set of 6 Neo-Classic Birdseye Maple Chairs, Brussels, Circa: 1825
About the Item
These beautiful dining chairs were at one time in the Paris estate of Eleanor Post Hutton (Close), the daughter of Marjorie Merriweather Post of Post cereal fame. They have long been prized by owners with the means and taste to furnish their homes in the very finest style. These neo-classic chairs are indicative of the work of high-end cabinetmakers in Brussels in the early 19th Century. They are made of highly-figured birdseye maple with the exaggerated silhouette of an ionic column forming the backsplat. The top rail has hand-carved ears and the legs are hand-turned. The maple has a beautiful reddish golden glow. The current upholstery of beige horse hair with braid trim probably dates from their time in Paris.

- Condition:Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. These chairs are strong and sturdy. There are some small, old cracks in the maple which do not affect strength or beauty. Light soiling on the upholstery. The upholstery is not original, but all else is.
